Subtropical monster…

The size of the plant’s leaves provide the name for Monstera, which is Latin for montrous or abnormal. No common name is needed this time. Leaves can spread up to three feet in length and several feet in width. Truly a monster even in the plant-loving subtropics of Southern Florida.
As the Monstera leaves grow they form “fenestrations” holes) to aid leaf expansion. This plant was ground level with its roots in the earth. Yet it has been known to grow as a vine, up to 66 feet clinging to trees and using aerial roots. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
