A tree that weeps when needed…

My attention was drawn to this large flower bud hanging from the tall Baobab (Adansonia digitata) tree. I don’t believe I’ve seen it before. The flowers apparently last only a day, so I missed seeing its bloom this year. Baobab is a savannah African native requiring a lot of space for full growth. Read about this amazing tree here. This Baobab tree seemed happy, but it seemed to need more space to be fully seen and appreciated. Baobab is a tree known for crying (weeping) from its leaves when it feels the soil is too dry. It has an ability to store much water, like cacti, which helps it live quite long. One tree in Yemen lived for 2000 years! I am envious as I have begun struggling with dehydration in my elder years. Again I’m humbled by nature’s abilities. Copyright 2024 Pamela Breitberg
