Coffee stained watercolors…

I have been subscribing to SketchBox, check it out here, for about a year now to expand my painting, sketching, skills. Before this year I only used acrylic painting. the little pieces I do are all 4″x6″, so short little piece to try out new techniques and mediums. This month is watercolor and the two colors are actually tinted with real coffee! What fun!! Each month I get full size samples of different mediums and papers. This image was copying the demonstration online showing me how to use the month’s kit. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
This one is my creation, based on the above demonstration that I did. I began drinking coffee in 2012 (long story about that). No, the watercolors do not have a coffee aroma. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
This watercolor I began by creating a blotchy background. Then, I had to imagine a composition to go along with this background. This is where I ended up; with ever faithful flowers. A favorite subject. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
I am getting better at leaving light areas untouched. Unlike acrylic, in watercolor, one goes from light to dark. I’m used to acrylics where one goes from dark to light. Quite a brain switch. Also, acrylic dries very quickly, allowing for painting on top of other paint very easily. Watercolor requires drying time in order to add some details. This, too, is an imagined setting.
