Do they know…

What?! Monarch Butterflies and Red Milkweed Beetles (Tetraopes tetrophthalmus) thrive on Milkweed plants. Yet here they are, in fair number, enjoying Lavender Giant Hyssop (Agastache foeniculum). I wouldn’t have been surprised to see this Monarch resting on the Hyssop; they have a right to rest anywhere they choose. Diversity and diet change perhaps are part of all species.
Both butterfly and beetle were so engrossed on the Lavender Giant Hyssop that I was easily able to capture multiple images. Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg

Not a Milkweed plant

Yet two species partaking

Confused or puposeful choice

Let’s try new things.
