Seeking sun’s warmth…

A sturdy remaining leaf stands upright in the prairie snows. Compass Plant (Silphium lainatum) is a native prairie plant.  Compass Plant during the summer produces tall spikes of yellow sunflowers. Pioneers named the plant for the leafs that point due north and south. Truth is they face the sun to recieve the most sunlight; ie. energy! Copyright 2025 Pamela Breitberg
