Tempting grass…

Spotting these Northern Wild Oats (Chasmanthium latifolium.) gently swaying in the breeze I couldn’t help but reach out and touch the flat, smooth, symmetrically arranged seed heads. Growing among the autumn blooming Asters at the Chicago Botanic Garden’s Sensory Garden the neutral brown bundles drew attention from the usual scene stars. This native grass has the potential to become aggressive, which makes it a possible choice for groundcover in a shady setting. Makes me want to sew some wild oats ….in my perennial garden.
