I often focus on the little things of life that too often go unnoticed. While taking these images a beach walker confided in me that she was very confused about my attention to what seemed to her like “nothing to photograph”. When I pointed out the patterns of seaweed caused naturally by the receding tide, she was receptive and felt “enlightened”. She pulled out her phone (camera!) and began creating her own images of patterns. Watching her as she paused periodically in her stroll down the beach was almost as much fun as making these images.
I wonder which fabric designers have gotten inspiration from such patterns in nature.
