Around South Pond in Chicago’s Lincoln Park are prairielands, planted for erosion control of the pond as well as a haven for wildlife. The plants are native speices that once made up the primary habitat for Illlinois, the Prairie State. Today Illinois has less than 10 percent native prairielands.
