Around the pond…

Around South Pond in Chicago’s Lincoln Park are prairielands, planted for erosion control of the pond as well as a haven for wildlife. The plants are native speices that once made up the primary habitat for Illlinois, the Prairie State. Today Illinois has less than 10 percent native prairielands. Here a native Goldenrod reaches the end of it’s bloom cycle. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg

Looking up and to the back of the prairie are Queen of the Prairie blooms; also in thier final stage of bloom. The height of the plant and the flowers do indeed give off a royal statue. Copyright 2020 Pamela Breitberg
