Old south Florida tradition…

An evergreen shrub that flowers year round is an easy candidate as the essential south Florida shrub. Ixora blooms come in a variety of colors; here are plantings of red and white flowers mingling together. Ixora is an old-fashioned shrub that’s still highly popular today evidenced by its repeated presence on my daily walks. Copyright 2022 Pamela Breitberg

Ixora flowers come in a variety of colors from white, yellow, orange and pink making them an easy “yes” for any garden design. Most popular are the bright red flowers, earning Ixora the nickname “Flame of the Woods” in spite of it’s preferred habitats with bright sun far away from any woodlands.
