This Red-tailed Hawk (Buteo jamaicensis) looks harmless and perhaps friendly while sitting outside this home in Sarasota Florida. It watched me come back from a walk while visiting a girlfriend. Red-tailed Hawks used to hunt in our Chicago suburb garden. It thought, rightly so, our birdfeeder area was prime hunting grounds. So I’m aware they are dangerous predators. I feel the same way about them, Pamela. They look diginfied and majestic sitting on the bows of our trees, but not when they swoop down on one of our wild bunnies. Still, circle of life and all that–and they’re welcome to all the moles they want.
