Not a grass…

Whenever I see something that resembles grass, but is near or in a wetland area and open shade, I know it’s probably a Sedge. Sedges are quite different in make up than grasses although they look similar upon first sighting. This is  Prickly Sedge (Carex stipata) a common native in open woodlands that have wet feet. These were at the Caldwell Lily Pond. The saying to help identify a sedge vs. grass is “Sedges have edges, grasses are hollow with nodes to the ground”. The stems of Sedges are triangular (edges). Don’t judge by first looks

How one looks at first can be

A lack of knowledge.
