Rugged, resilient beauty…

I first noticed the array of fallen flowers on the lawn underneath this huge Northern Catalpa (Catalpa speciosa) tree in Chicago’s Lincoln Park. This “tough and adaptable” (see https://www.chicagobotanic.org/plantinfo/tree_alternatives/northern_catalpa ) tree can grow up to 70 feet tall. Copyright 2019 Pamela Breitberg
The orchid-like flower of the Northern Catalpa is most striking. Here, some of the fallen flowers were still in full form and could be easily viewed and enjoyed. Copyright 2019 Pamela Breitberg

  1. It makes a beautiful shade tree. When I was a teacher I had one planted by the playground; now to wait for it to mature into a real shade tree. Thank you for your comment.
