The sign said “Tulip Tree” but this was not the flower that I recognized from the Tulip Tree that flowers each winter in southern Florida. This is the American Tulip Tree (Liriodendron tulipfera). It is the tallest eastern hardwood! Copyright 2023 Pamela BreitbergFlorida is host, it turns out, to the African Tulip Tree (Spathodea campanulata). Quite popular in southern Florida it has quite different flowers than the previously shown American Tulip Tree. Both are quite striking for their large blooms high up in the tree.
